Lockdown triggered fear. No escape from feelings of terror and doom. Unable to focus on anything but the news and images of death, painting and drawing seemed pointless. I couldn’t make decisions. Initially everything I made looked banal and strangely joyful. Only now can I see that my hopelessness did eventually push me into new work with bolder resolution.
