Trapped in London during Lockdown, I longed to return to nature and freedom I find in the Turkish countryside. Being of dual British and Turkish nationality, my work explores the struggles that come with being a woman from two very different cultures. Midnight in the Lavender Forest attempts to escape my pointlessly mundane existence by creating my own mythical female being. Born out of anxiety and the feeling of being controlled, this female nude with the head of a Turkish Kangal dog is a reflection of myself: free in nakedness, but also vulnerable; powerful but domesticated.
