I missed my studio –and the work I’d left unfinished. But the fantastic spring weather brought the camellias out in everyone’s garden and I really enjoyed painting these outside. A pair of robins would come and keep an eye on me and twice I had to sponge off bird droppings (though not from these particular paintings!). I had tea towels to hand, and they seemed apt as a domestic format. I liked the stripes of the border and the way the paint bled into the weave.
