Lockdown allowed me to expand my ideas about my current public art project ‘Hidden Mothers’ which focuses on the empowerment of central and eastern European migrant and refugee mothers in the UK. Staying connected and surviving are now central goals for us all. These partially autobiographical prints connect to my concern for mothers hidden at home during the Lockdown. Representing both female power and vulnerability, they relate to a narrative of marriage which appears to sparkle at first, but soon becomes a coercive trap, with no option for survival other than escape.
