This body of drawings, titled Living Currency, was made during Lockdown in a makeshift studio in the countryside. Conceived as diptychs, each couplet of works draws upon considerations of sickness, nature’s bounty and the economy, developing a concept of living currency as wrought through hybrids of plant, animal and human bodies. Forming a parody of a classical utopia, through the lens of an English garden, plants become bodies and objects of sensation, these potentates of fragility and yet also power form a spectre of resistance to that which is traded and circulated.
