Just before Lockdown I finalised a tapestry commission for the EuroFusion Project, for which I undertook extensive research into astronomy and cosmology. I learned how, by watching the sun and moon, astronomers were able to calculate the earth’s movement around the sun, and that the survival of the human race depends on the consistency of earth’s trajectory. And I learned about the fragile balance of the planetary system. During Lockdown, like many other women, I had childcare responsibilities, but I was also lucky to have two hours a day in the studio. The Sun Paths paintings come out of that time.
